Alan Semok Ventriloquial Figures are individually hand crafted at the DUMMY DOCTOR WORKSHOP in Somerset, NJ.
Since 1966, he has built hundreds of vent figures, hand puppets, and marionettes (including puppets for network television programs and commercials). However, he has always stressed quality over quantity. The extreme rarity of his figures on the "used dummy market" is a testament to the value the owners place on Alan's work!!

His compilation of experience in Illustration, Toy Designer, Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing, combined with his childhood fascination with Ventriloquist figures, drew him to the ultimate creative challenge...

Creating three dimensional LIVING to speak.

Within a few weeks of discovering the new art of modern Ventriloquist Figures, Chance took after it like a dog on a bone. His first figure build utilized a Mike Brose kit.  It was natural instinct to begin designing his own mechanical methods combined with traditional methods and the first result was not too shabby.

Like most people involved in ventriloquism - either performing or figure making - Dan had an interest at an early age with several pullstring figures in his arsenal. Attempted his first figure at the age of 8. Slathered wood putty on foil which covered his Danny O'Days face. Needless to say this was not a very successful project and didn't give it another shot until he was about 11 years old. This time he used paper mache to cast Danny and ping pong ball eyes and even a spitter. Not too impressive either but a far cry better than his first attempt.

Kenny Croes discovered ventriloquism after receiving a Jerry Mahoney doll on his 6th birthday. He also got a copy of Paul Winchell’s “Ventriloquism for Fun and Profit”. He worked up an act and entertained at service clubs, birthday parties, talent shows and school assemblies throughout his childhood. At age 11, he learned to play the guitar and soon discovered that girls liked that. So he set aside his dummy and launched a career as a singer-songwriter-entertainer. He became a regular at the famous Pasadena Ice House, eventually landing a songwriting contract with Criterion Music in Hollywood.

Kenny’s entertainment career also included a two-year stint as a street performer in San Francisco. He partnered with Actor- Magician Harry Anderson in a very successful street act that concluded with Kenny performing ventriloquism.

Today, Kenny performs occasionally, but spends most of his time in his Bandon, Oregon workshop designing and building vent figures for others to enjoy.

His father bought him his first Pro figure when he was about 10 years old. It was a Maher workshop/Lovik “Jingo” (which he still performs with till this day). The figure, now called “Eddie” has had a face lift, (re-carved, painted and wigged) by Chuck Jackson. It was about this time that Mike wanted to learn how to make figures.

When Mike was 18, he built his first ventriloquist figure out of plastic wood. Then he started to learn about sculpting, what to make the figures out of and in the mid 90′s he began his ventriloquist figure making venture.

Today, Mike makes high quality ventriloquist figures with great character as well as smooth and precise mechanics.

PUPPET PLANET has several types of puppets to choose from so that everyone can afford a quality looking puppet. From our basic hand puppets all the way up to the highest studio TV quality, you describe details of the character you want or submit a photo / drawing as well.

Throughout the 4 months of shooting, Land lent his expertise to director/producersTrey Parker and Matt Stone who, shot by shot, relied on his 25 years
of marionette experience to help them create their landmark film. Other screen credits include Disney's The Princess Diaries 2, for which he created and performed a Julie Andrews look-alike marionette, seen on the Special Features section of the DVD. Tims love of ventriloquism began at an early age after seeing a ventriloquist at his grandparents Christian camp. Tim soon learned that when “a dummy talks, people listen!”
As time went by, Tim began constructing his own characters and soon met figure maker, Chuck Jackson. Chuck became Tim’s mentor and a lifelong friendship was struck.
Tims love of details is evident in his completed characters, they just look like they are ready to speak!

Wood figures from Tim’s studio are meticulously hand carved from basswood, which comes from the Linden tree. Basswood is preferred because of its durability and very close grain, which allows for finely detailed sculpture. Linden trees grow in the forests for centuries before fully mature. Tim Selberg carefully selects only the finest kiln-dried basswood for his carved figures. Once in his skilled hands a miracle gradually takes place out of the ordinary.

Tyler is still waiting for his big break into show business.  Until that happens, he can be found spending time with his lovely wife, Amanda, or down in his dummy shop building little friends.
